Just In: Olagunsoye Oyinlola Dumps APC, Resigns His Appointment As NIMC Chairman
Former Governor, Olagunsoye Oyinlola Dumps APC
The former Governor of Osun State, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola has dumped the All Progressive Congress (APC).
The Secretary to the State Government (SSG) during Oyinlola’s administration, Alhaji Kazeem Adio, who confirmed the defection said: “I can confirm to you that former Governor Oyinlola has left APC along with his supporters. Therefore, we are no more in the APC. At the moment, I cannot talk about the new political party that Oyinlola will take us to.
Naija News learnt that Oyinlola presented his resignation letter to the Chairman of APC in Ward 1, Okuku, Odo Otin Local Government Area of Osun State yesterday.
The former APC chieftain while giving the reason for leaving the party said
“My resignation from the APC, therefore, is to enable me contribute more meaningfully to ongoing efforts at repositioning the politics of Nigeria for the good of the Nigerian people,”.
Oyinlola had given insight into his plans to leave APC at the formal launch of CNM when he spoke about the perceived conflict of interest between his new task and his chairmanship of NIMC board.
Oyinlola had said the both the APC and the PDP have failed and have not been able to meet the aspirations of Nigerians, noting that CNM would mobilise young Nigerians to take over power from the ruling party.
The former governor: “We are trying to be like guardian angels; it is you that must decide who is to do what and at what level. That is why we are having this meeting today and putting it back to you.”
Also, in another related development, the former governor has also resigned his appointment as the Chairman of National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).
The resignation letter dated May 9, 2018, addressed to President Muhammadu Buhari, has been submitted to the Presidency.
The letter reads:
“Sir, I write to resign my appointment as the chairman of National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) with effect from today, 9th May, 2018.
“Your Excellency, I must put on record my very deep sense of appreciation for the special privilege and consideration you gave me to serve our fatherland in that capacity. As I stated in my appreciation letter to you shortly after the appointment, the offer was a clear call to service. I gave the job the dedication it deserved and would have loved to continue but I regret to inform Your Excellency that I have a new, greater political engagement that will make that difficult and even impolitic.
“Sir, as one of my bosses in the army, I believe you would understand my stand given recent political developments. The training I got as a decorated officer and gentleman precluded me from engaging in any act that could amount to disloyalty and conflict of interest. I am moving on to chart a new course in my politics outside the ruling party and this thus, demands my dropping the NIMC chairmanship.
“I thank you, sir, once again for the great honour and confidence reposed in me. However, there is time to take a job and another time to leave it and move on. For me, the time to work on something else in the interest and service of our people is now.
“I wish Your Excellency good-luck while praying that you will finish well and strong in the service of our country.”
Recall that Naija News earlier reported a letter co-signed by Oyinlola which alleged unfair treatment of his PDP bloc by the leadership of the APC.
